A Year of Life Lessons

Written By Unknown on Friday, 19 September 2014 | 05:16

1 year ago I was wrapping up my second year of CapacityCorps Orientation in DC and headed back to Nashville to start a new adventure. 13 months ago I was living in Dayton, Ohio, and finishing up my first year of CapacityCorps.
This past year (13 months) has included 3 cities in 3 states in multiple time zones.

It’s included 3 moves away from home to cities where I did not have friends. I’ve been incredibly poor (being given an income well below federal poverty guidelines). There have been moments of great triumph and moments of extreme stress. Some days brought me incredible amounts of joy and satisfaction as I achieved major life goals. It’s been a wonderful journey and these are the top 10 things I’ve learned or realized in the past year.

Seeing children or dogs play can make any day brighter
Running or hiking has become my therapy. When I’m struggling or angry that’s my go to. Yesterday I saw a dog carrying it’s leash and bounding all around. This kid and very patient dad made me stop and smile despite a day of frustrations. Rylie's bday 2010 006
