Bike Trip 2014 – Day 17

Written By Unknown on Wednesday, 17 September 2014 | 04:56

I started the morning feeling pretty good. I had a hearty breakfast and then blasted through the first two hills. I rode 10 miles in a fairly decent amount of time by myself, and stopped at a gas station. Only then did I realize I had gone entirely the wrong way. Not only had I cycled 10 miles and two hills in the wrong direction, I couldn’t cut across back to the route, I’d have to double back. So I rode the 10 miles and two hills I had just ridden over a second time.

By the time I had made up the distance, I was feeling slightly discouraged. I decided to stop at a Marathon station. Here, I met Stephanie, the clerk. She offered me a seat to rest. We ended up talking for hours. She gave me free food, access to the private bathroom and what she referred to as “tons of useless knowledge” (she told me all about her relationships, teaching degree and religious beliefs). It was a really heart-warming conversation.
