We had the best intentions with this trip. We really did. We were going to hike to the top of Loudoun Heights or Maryland Heights at Harpers Ferry. Alex had hurt his foot somehow the day or two before, and it was really bothering him on the ride, so we decided to just explore the downtown, and then enjoy some of Loudoun’s farms afterward.
If you’re doing the hike, I would recommend parking at the Park. Parking in downtown Harpers Ferry is rough, as the town is built on the side of a mountain. Thankfully, we found a spot about a half mile up from the sights, but that was a hard walk back to the car at the end of our day. First, Harpers Ferry is a quaint little town – mostly built around the history with some museums, restaurants, and inns.
Once you reach the bottom of the hill (where there is very limited parking), there are some ruins and museums. If you go under the bridge, you’ll find yourself at a great vantage point of where the Potomac meets the Shenandoah. In the picture below, Maryland is to the left, and Virginia is to the right.
