On the 21st July 2014 my Dad and I set off on a 10 day visit to Belgium. We’d wanted to visit before, but due to my mother’s poor joints and my brothers pure disinterest in history, it never happened. I was very excited about this holiday, having not been able to go anywhere last year. However, I was incredibly worried about the Channel Tunnel.
I get incredibly sea sick (as does my Dad), so we were never going to take a ferry over, but I’m terrified of small spaces, and the thought of being in a tube under the sea scares me senseless. The nightmares began about a week before we left!! Thankfully there were no complications!
We started our visit in Ypres so as to take in the WW1 history. Our hotel was just around the corner from Menin Gate. We missed the first night’s ceremony as we arrived late and needed food. We could hear some of it from where we sat in the cafe though.
