Village of Adare, Co. Limerick .. 2 : Travel Reminiscences

The Dunraven Arms Hotel, where hubby and I stayed for two nights, is one of the last buildings/dwellings on the main road through the charming village of Adare.Having walked into the village, the one way, we decided to walk the other way along the main road to the Augustinian Priory and Desmond Castle. More or less opposite the hotel is the main gate to Adare Manor, a luxury hotel and golf course.

Augustinian Priory : also known as ‘Black Abbey’ was founded by the Fitzgeralds in 1315 …Not far from the Priory is Desmond Castle: a 13th century feudal castle set on the banks of the River Maigue. Access to the main entrance is further down the main road, over the bridge, but it was closed, so we went traipsing through the grass to get a little closer to the back of the Castle (if I remember correctly there was a fence from where took these pics)

On our last night in Adare, hubby and I had a lovely dinner in a charming homely family restaurant in the village. Very homely in fact .. the family lived upstairs I didn’t take pics of food, or us, or anything else except this table in the corner ..
