Willow’s Holiday ’14: The Fountain of Youth

In spite of my allergy to sulfur, I drank from the Fountain of Youth anyway . . . and I actually did not have a reaction to it! It tasted sort of like the way a match smells when struck . . . if you can imagine THAT! It was an opportunity to experience a little taste of history . . . literally!

I must say, there was something very nostalgic about being at the Fountain of Youth with my teenage crush! He took the cup, bent down to catch some water from the fountain and handed it to me! So sweet! (My husband . . . NOT the water!) I’d been to St. Augustine about ten years ago with family, but I didn’t visit Ponce de Leon’s discovery. I’m glad too . . . because if I had been there before, I would have missed out on such a nostalgic event! And I simply LOVE sentimental moments : )

DSCN1607We toured the park, filled with history, archeology and wildlife. The park guides reenacted scenes from long ago as we traveled back in time down the paths lined with palms and oak trees donned with Spanish moss. A flock of close to thirty peacocks stroll alongside the guests of the park. For additional education, they have the Navigators Planetarium to illustrate how to guide a ship by the stars, and also a history lesson demonstrated with a thirty-foot globe!
