Helix Park, Kelpies MonumentFor those of you who haven’t had the chance to sign up for one of our trips, here is an alternative way to spend your weekend. The Helix Park is just outside of Glasgow and it provides a relaxing environment to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning.
What to see
The park hosts the world’s largest horse sculptures, called Kelpies! In Scottish lore, Kelpies are water demons that sometimes take the form of horses. The name of the mythical creature Kelpie was chosen in reference to the horse’s strength and endurance, a monument to Scotland’s horse-powered industrial heritage.
The Kelpies are 30metres tall and there is water from the canals around them, but they are hollow on the inside so you can also go in and have a wee look. For those who wish to delve even further into The Kelpie Experience during their visit, guided tour tickets are available to book now. The tour gives you a unique view point – looking up from inside the immense sculptures! You’ll also hear The Kelpies Tale from the parks’s excellent tour guides.
