Sometimes I love that I’m spending the summer at school and sometimes, it can be a real drag. Like any typical North-eastern liberal arts college, my school is located in a quaint (read: tiny and in the middle of nowhere) college town. This can be a great thing- it’s so much fun to walk around the “downtown” area, exploring the local shops, unique restaurants and quintessential small-town events such as the Independence Day parade and springtime arts festival. However, sometimes it feels like there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO (unless you’re partial to cow-tipping) and when this feeling arises, a little weekend escape is in order.
As you may have caught on from my post about the comforts of home, I really love little critters. Animals, fish, creatures with feathers or scales- it doesn’t matter, I love them all and look for any chance to be around them. Obviously, my options are quite limited at school (only herbivorous fish, remember), so I have to seek out other ways to get my animal fix. This weekend, I was determined to get myself to an aquarium.
I’ve always had an innate love for water. Growing up about an hour away from the Atlantic Ocean, annual summer vacations at the lake and plenty of time in the pool fostered a deep love for any body of water. I have a history of refusing to get out of the water once I get in and am known as “The Fish” to my family.
