I would suggest getting a hostel in the Chinatown or old town area. We stayed at the Reggae Guest house, part of a chain of Reggae bars and hostels around town. The Reggae Mansion is the most popular. It is a gorgeous hostel in the old town area.
The backpacker bar on the roof is awesome, but the music can be heard from down the block, so I imagine it would make sleeping hard. My recommendation would be to stay a couple blocks away in one of the many hostels in the area. Reggae Guest House had discounts to a bar next door, and was located only 2 blocks from the Reggae Mansion, right on the edge of Petaling St. Chinatown.
Walking tour of Old Town:
The heart of old Kuala Lumpur is filled with the colonial architecture from when the British controlled the island. It’s a great place to start your trip because everything is so close together and easily walkable.
