In early February 2014, 1 girl set off to meet her 3 (already trekking) companions for the adventure of a lifetime…
‘Eve’, a poem by Joshua Butler-Wenden:
Rest, my Eve, my icy queen,My stony spire of cold contempt,My devil torn from wondrous dream,Though I thought my love was heaven sent.Rest, oh heart, on yonder peak,And await my falling footsteps there.Though I know you love lies out of reach,Still I chase that vast horizon fair.
You taunt me with your distant face,Then don a veil of white, sublime.
Yet humble not, you hidden grace,Through false facade perfection shines. You claim the Earth with haughty will,And pierce the sky with static thrust.Your walls shine bright with Winter’s chill,Reviling love, denying lust.
I chase, I chase, though you do not run,Your vacant gaze defies my feet,I know you not to be the one.My distant love I dare not meet,And still I climb, with trembling might,Though I know my days are numbered all.And when I reach the summit bright,I fall. I fall.
