India destination number 2 on the list was the country capital, Delhi. I have to confess to having minimal excitement about our stay there, having heard very few stories of positive experiences. Our visit was divided into two parts, as we used it as a landing and leaving pad for the rest of our visit to India after leaving Mumbai.
There were only really a couple of memorable moments from this short stopover. One was our first experience of a rickshaw, which kicked off a series of a few ‘transport firsts’ that would continue the next day. I swear it nearly capsized into busy traffic several times (seemed funny at the time, less funny on reflection). The next was the busy market area near the central station- which was, overall, my favourite part of Delhi. SO many souvenir opportunities, so little time. Finally, and quite memorably, were the recurring power cuts in our hotel room that happened every few minutes. I’m not sure if it was just our hotel, the area, or the time of year but something quite strange was going on!
I decided at this point to reserve judgement on the capital until we made a return at the end of the trip, just before flying out of India.
