A Real Spanish Exchange

It has been nearly a whole year to the day when I first set off to study abroad in Tarragona, Spain (or Catalonia, as the locals would prefer). I think about this time last year I was furiously trying to get in touch with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili to confirm my acceptance, since they hadn’t actually sent my a confirmation notice. But oh well, I obviously got there in the end.

Having re-read the article, I notice that I talked a lot about the studying I did abroad and not a lot about the experience of actually being in a foreign country. But honestly, that was all that I was doing at the time I wrote the article – different assignments had to be handed in, I had exams to revise for, I was tutoring and teaching teenagers…I hadn’t been that busy since my A Levels. I had started to write a blog about my personal.

I met a lot of amazing people, when I did find the time to get away I travelled to Reus, Barcelona, Madrid and Poland, I managed to take advantage of living so close to the beach and I am not ashamed to say that I stayed out partying until 5am more than once! I miss all the people I met, and although the whole experience was different to what I was expecting, I enjoyed living in a foreign country. I’m certain that it paved the way for my willingness to move to Berlin for a one-month internship and it’s the biggest reason why I still look at travel guides to decide where I should go next.
