With the split round coming to fruition I thought I would take the week to review how I feel all the players have done over the past 17 rounds.
Alex Fasolo: returned after no pre season, was reinvented as a back trough the VFL. Solid performances until he got injured. Now is pressing again after a strong VFL hit out.
Sam Dwyer: has struggled for continuity this season after a break out debut last year. Has been on the outer more often than not.
Brent Macaffer: has had a breakout year following his tagging scalps of last year. Claiming big names like Cotchin. But his biggest scalp came against the Gold Coast, where he decided tagging was getting old and decided to injure Gary Ablett instead.
Brodie Grundy: second year blues could be taking it’s toll. His first year with a full pre season, has struggled in the latter half of the year. Could be due to the heavy workload. Has been trialled as a forward/ruck for another forward option.
Nick Maxwell: a season that started off so well has ended in tears. Maxwell has retired after 207 games. He will go down as one of collingwood’s great captains.
Tyson Goldsack: Goldsack has been a tackling machine, there’s no wonder his nickname is ‘sack’ provides great forward pressure and has gone back when called upon. Hates to be beaten.
Ben Kennedy: took hold of his chance at senior level after a stellar VFL stint. Would be hard done by to lose his spot in the seniors.
Heritier Lumumba: everyone loves H’s run and carry, but it has been down from last year. Not as explosive as last year but has provided plenty of run off the half back.
Martin Clarke: has struggled in VFL level, considering how young and inexperienced our back line is it looks near impossible that he will get a call up. With his contract expiring, he looks to be in trouble.
Scott Pendlebury: first year as captain, and what a man. Although not always imposing himself on games like last year. A lot of the time, when we have needed a rise this is the man to do it. His game against Sydney was inspiring, and he has done it time and time again. The future looks bright with this man leading the way.
