Rome was definitely a city I wanted to go back to and spend more time in, so when we were planning out the itinerary, my mom and I decided that 4 days would be the perfect amount of time.
We stayed in the lovely Hotel Embassy, which was located in a fantastic area, though we hadn’t realized it was closer to Repubblica station than Barberini, so we ended up walking uphill in 80+ degree weather for 15 minutes trying to find the damn place!The first two days we explored the city via foot and one of the many, many hop on and off buses that ran through the city.
One of the nifty tricks I learned on my first trip to Rome was to buy a ticket at the Forum, which grants admission into both the Forum and the Colosseum. The lines for the Forum are much, much shorter and since you already have the ticket, you’ll be able to skip the ridiculous lines that circle around the Colosseum. (And personally, I find the Forum to be much more fascinating.)
I was rather shocked to see the poster hanging above my table at a restaurant near the Colosseum. There were too many situations in which I felt incredibly conscious of the fact that I am Asian while I was traveling (something I will expand upon more in my Turkey photo diary posts), and it also made me notice the lack of colored people. I didn’t feel at all odd in London, even in Paris, but once I started traveling around in Rome, the multitude of, “Ni hao! Konichiwa
