Holland America’s “Grand Voyages” are not around-the-world cruises but they take in a lot of territory. They are part of the mix that goes with Amsterdam’s World Voyage that calls on 25 countries in 2015.
The cruise starts in Fort Lauderdale on January 5.Obviously to take these voyages you first have to win the lottery, or you’re comfortably retired, or a rich uncle left you a bundle. It doesn’t matter…these are interesting trips.Below is a taste of the itineraries…
The Grand South America and Antarctica Voyage is a 68-day sailing on the Prinsendam covers South America, Antarctica and the Amazon after leaving Fort Lauderdale on January 3. The voyage takes you through 11 countries and visits 31 ports.The recognizable landscape that is Rio de Janeiro
The recognizable landscape that is Rio de JaneiroFrom its North American departure Prinsendam travels through the Panama Canal and then circumnavigates South America. Featured overnight calls include Valparaiso (Santiago), Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Manaus (Brazil, in the heart of the Amazon) and two full Peruvian nights at Callao (Lima).
After its South American journey, the Prinsendam begins a 55-day Grand Mediterranean Voyage, leaving Fort Lauderdale on March 12. Before crossing the Atlantic, it makes several stops in the Caribbean, then it’s off to the Canary Islands with an overnight in Tenerife.
