…or at least what i’ve noticed while i’ve been here..that is, somewhere else, somewhere traveled to, and somewhere completely new to me and only me, i’ve found that my mind has been set on things in my past as if i’ve brought them along in my suitcase to show and tell to people.
And when I meet fellow travelers, like myself, especially the other au pairs, I find that we all gather together unknowing anything of the other person and sure enough we all begin unfolding the contents of the luggage we’ve brought freely, openly, and securely.
Almost nostalgically at first… but more as an attempt to showcase our inner selves through the display of past experiences, descriptions of our best friends and ex-boyfriends, as well as some of the crazier stories we’ve stored away for keepsake purposes.
I find this fascinating because I can tell that the way we all do it is often very similar to one another and i think that is partially because we’ve all got that reoccurring gene set in the travel bug phenomena that makes us crave connection to other people. We crave it like sugar and once we get a taste of it, we soak it up like we haven’t had it in years.
