So I thought I’d write up a quick post to tell people how trekking alone is as I had so many questions before I set off which I only answered when my feet were moving.
Before you leave:
When I arrived in Pokhara (Annapurna Trekking gateway) I expected to meet loads of people in my situation; about to set off to the Annapurna range without a group or guide. In reality a lot of people here are doing voluntourism and finding people, even in a fairly busy hotel, who are about to trek is unlikely. There are forums such as trekkingpartners and the thorn tree forum where you may have some luck finding people going to the same place at the same time as you.
So you could spend weeks here in the low season finding someone who is doing the same trek as you … BUT … Why do you need to leave Pokhara with someone? You WILL I repeat WILL find someone with the first hour of your trek. Whether your speed is fast and you keep catching up with people or you’re slow and people keep catching up with you, you won’t feel isolated. From guides to trekkers of all nationalities everyone was friendly and often relished some extra company.
